Stewart was born June 13, 1936 in Trigg County, Kentucky and earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, two master's degrees, and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Kentucky, plus a Master of Divinity from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

Taught physics at Tennessee State University in Nashville before becoming a minister in Hettick, Illinois for many years

Co-founded the Illinois Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Ministry 40 years ago and was a member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Jacksonville

Resolution extends condolences to his surviving family, including his wife Carol Ann, daughter Suzanne Cottrell, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and brothers
