Charlotte Newfeld passed away on November 17, 2022, at age 91 after living in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood for nearly 60 years.

She was a professional artist working in ceramics, sterling silver, and watercolors, and held a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

Newfeld was a prominent LGBT rights advocate since the early 1970s, inducted into the LGBT Hall of Fame in 1996, and successfully lobbied for Chicago's human rights ordinance, hate crimes ordinance, and establishment of the mayor's committee on Gay and Lesbian Issues.

She served as president of Citizens United for Baseball in Sunshine (CUBS) and led the "No Lights" campaign to prevent night games at Wrigley Field, while securing neighborhood safety measures.

Newfeld was the creative visionary for the Bill Jarvis Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Lincoln Park and was instrumental in its restoration and management.
