HB1009 Summary: Lead in Schools Reporting Act

• Department of Public Health shall conduct annual lead testing at all Chicago public school facilities for lead in paint, dust, soil, and water, with results transmitted to the State Board of Education.

• Department must notify State Board of Education if detected lead levels meet unsafe standards, including current state or federal action levels for lead in drinking water.

• School report cards for Chicago Public Schools must include lead testing results and whether any lead levels are deemed unsafe by the Department of Public Health.

• Students may transfer from one attendance center to another within or outside the Chicago school district if lead levels at their current school meet unsafe standards as determined by the Department of Public Health.
