IL HB1029

Requires the Department of Healthcare and Family Services to transition pharmacy services for managed care enrollees from managed care back to traditional fee-for-service coverage under the state's direct administration.

Transition shall occur upon expiration of existing managed care contracts with managed care organizations as of the bill's effective date.

Mandates the Department take four specific actions to prevent service interruptions: hire an additional licensed pharmacist, stress-test claims processing systems, increase prior authorization capacity, and educate the public and help desk staff about the pharmacy coverage change.

Grants the Department rulemaking authority to implement the transition provisions.

Repeals existing authority permitting the Department to contract with third parties for pharmacy benefit administration under fee-for-service models.
