IL HB1049

Prohibits insurers from refusing to issue or renew homeowner's or renter's insurance policies, charging higher premiums, or limiting coverage based solely on owning a dog of a specific breed or breed mixture

Allows insurers to cancel policies, refuse coverage, or increase premiums if an individual dog has been determined to be dangerous or vicious under the Animal Control Act

Requires any insurer actions against individual dangerous dogs to be based on underwriting and actuarial principles derived from actual loss experience with that specific dog

Repeals the existing Section 143.10d of the Illinois Insurance Code

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law, except the dog breed insurance protections take effect 6 months after becoming law
