IL HB1144

Amends the Election Code to restrict judges who resign from their judicial positions and seeking election to the same office, requiring at least 2 years of non-service as an elected or appointed judge for that office.

Updates language in the judicial retention election process to use gender-neutral terminology, replacing "himself" and "his" with "the Judge's."

Allows judges seeking retention to request that the Secretary of State redact their home address information from their retention candidacy declaration within 5 business days of the request.

Maintains existing requirements for judges to file retention declarations at least 6 months before general elections and requires the Secretary of State to certify candidacies at least 63 days before elections.

Preserves the three-fifths affirmative vote threshold needed for judges to be retained in office for another term.
