HB1217 Summary

• Creates the Veterans' Licensure and Workforce Task Force to advise the Governor and General Assembly on improving policies and opportunities for military service members, veterans, and their families regarding education, training, and professional licensing.

• Task Force shall review how Illinois state entities and higher education institutions accept military education, training, and experience for academic credit; professional and occupational licensing; and recognition of out-of-state licenses for military spouses and dependents.

• Task Force comprises 20 members including the Director of Veterans' Affairs (chair), state legislators, higher education representatives, veterans organization representatives, and licensing officials from various Illinois counties.

• Task Force shall submit findings and recommendations report to the General Assembly and Governor by December 1, 2023, with copies distributed to relevant state agencies and all public and private institutions of higher education.

• Act automatically repeals on December 1, 2024; takes effect immediately upon enactment.
