IL HB1535

Changes the Chicago Board of Education's authority from "may" to "shall" when appointing a general superintendent of schools by majority vote.

Requires the general superintendent to serve under a performance-based contract for a term ending on June 30 of the third calendar year after appointment.

Grants the general superintendent all powers and duties of a chief executive officer as set forth in the School Code Article.

Permits the board to conduct a national search for a general superintendent, with incumbent superintendents eligible to be included in the search.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
