IL HB1624

Allows the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board to offer school resource officer training to qualified retired law enforcement officers as defined under the federal Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004.

Permits the Board to issue certificates of completion or training waivers to qualified retired law enforcement officers for school resource officer employment in the same manner as active officers.

Enables schools and school districts to employ qualified retired law enforcement officers beginning January 1, 2024, who obtain training certification or approved waivers to serve as school resource officers.

Clarifies that nothing in law prohibits school resource officers or qualified retired law enforcement officers from carrying firearms.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
