IL HB2101

Amends the Counties Code to modify firearm regulations for special investigators appointed by a State's Attorney.

Removes the requirement that special investigators only carry firearms while performing assigned duties; investigators may now carry firearms with State's Attorney permission and appropriate identification without the duty-specific limitation.

Maintains existing requirements that special investigators must complete basic police training or have prior law enforcement experience waived by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board.

Retains other provisions regarding special investigator qualifications, including background checks, prohibition on felony convictions, salary approval by county board, and consultation with local police agencies.
