HB2271 Summary

• Amends the Park District Code to allow park districts to levy a tax of up to 0.025% for organizing and maintaining a police system, implementing and maintaining public safety and security measures, or both.

• Defines "public safety and security measures" to include security personnel, safety audits, active-shooter training, security improvements such as lighting, cameras, metal detectors, and emergency call boxes.

• Allows park districts that previously approved a levy for "police programs" to use those funds for public safety and security measures without requiring a new referendum.

• Requires park district police officers to complete training under the Illinois Police Training Act.

• Takes effect immediately upon enactment.
