IL HB2450

Requires health care professionals licensed by the Department of Professional Regulation to complete at least one hour of cultural competency training as part of continuing education for license renewals occurring on or after January 1, 2025.

Applies cultural competency requirement to 18 categories of health care professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, optometrists, pharmacists, dentists, and others.

Establishes timeframes for completing statutorily mandated training topics: professionals with 2-year renewal cycles must complete all mandated topics within 3 renewal periods (or 4 if new topics are added), and those with 3-year cycles must complete within 2 renewal periods (or 3 if new topics are added).

Reduces opioid prescribing education requirement from 3 hours to 1 hour of continuing education for prescribers of controlled substances, with the hour counting toward total continuing education requirements for license renewal.

Requires the Department to maintain website information about statutorily mandated training topics and include notifications about current requirements on all license and permit applications or renewal forms.
