Hospital Price Transparency Act (HB2609)

• Requires hospitals, ambulatory surgical treatment centers, and University of Illinois Hospital to publicly disclose standard charges for all items and services in digital and physical formats, updated at least annually.

• Mandates publication of a consumer-friendly list of standard charges for at least 300 shoppable services (or all shoppable services if fewer than 300 provided), including payor-specific negotiated charges, discounted cash prices, and de-identified minimum and maximum negotiated charges.

• Establishes the Hospital Price Transparency Fund to collect administrative penalties; Department of Public Health monitors compliance and can impose penalties of $1,000-$5,000 per day depending on facility revenue, with facilities required to submit corrective action plans for material violations.

• Requires facilities to submit updated price lists to the Department and make information searchable and accessible online without registration, passwords, or fees.

• Takes effect January 1, 2024.
