IL HB2822

Creates a New Arrival Student Grant Program administered by the State Board of Education to provide grants to school districts supporting newly arriving immigrant students, regardless of immigration status.

Defines "new arrival student" as a student who is a newly arriving immigrant student, without regard to immigration status.

Requires school districts to submit applications to the State Board of Education with information as reasonably required; excludes school districts organized under Article 34 of the School Code from eligibility.

Directs the State Board of Education to annually distribute funds based on consideration of the number of new arrival students enrolled (preschool through secondary school), the needs of those students, and the district's ability to meet those needs.

Takes effect July 1, 2023, subject to specific state appropriation.
