HB2846 Summary

• Reduces first probationary period for teachers hired after PERA implementation from 4 consecutive school terms to 3 consecutive school terms, requiring "Proficient" ratings in the second and third terms (rather than in the last term and either second or third term).

• Shortens second probationary period from 3 consecutive school terms to 2 consecutive school terms, requiring 2 "Excellent" evaluations instead of 3.

• Applies only to school districts with fewer than 500,000 inhabitants and teachers first employed on or after the PERA implementation date.

• Maintains existing provisions for honorable dismissal, special education joint agreements, and teacher transfers during district boundary changes.

• Effective July 1, 2023.
