HB3214 - Gun Crime Accountability Act

• Creates the Gun Crime Accountability Act requiring State's Attorneys in counties with over 3,000,000 inhabitants to file written statements explaining plea agreements that reduce firearm charges to lesser or non-weapons offenses.

• State's Attorney written statements must specifically explain why the reduced offense does not include the original weapons charge and become part of the court record available to the public upon request.

• Judges in counties with over 3,000,000 inhabitants must issue written sentencing orders explaining their reasons for imposing sentences or accepting plea agreements in cases originally charged as firearm offenses.

• Copies of judges' written sentencing orders must be provided to any person upon request.
