HB3307 Summary

• Starting with the 2028-2029 school year, students must complete either 2 years of foreign language courses or at least 2 years of career-focused coursework meeting College and Career Pathway Endorsement requirements to receive a high school diploma.

• All Illinois public universities (University of Illinois, Southern Illinois University, Chicago State University, Eastern Illinois University, Governors State University, Illinois State University, Northeastern Illinois University, Northern Illinois University, and Western Illinois University) may not require State public high school graduates to complete foreign language courses unless they offer College and Career Pathway Endorsement as an alternative for admission.

• Students entering 9th grade in 2024-2025 must complete 2 years of laboratory science instead of general science, and computer literacy instruction becomes a required course.

• Subsection (e-5) applies to students entering 9th grade in 2024-2025 and later, while subsection (e-10) applies to students entering 9th grade in 2028-2029 and later.

• Effective immediately upon becoming law.
