• University of Illinois Board of Trustees contracts with a not-for-profit organization dedicated to retired police dog protection to administer the program and disburse funds to former handlers or adopters.

• Reimburses former handlers or adopters up to $1,500 annually per retired dog for veterinary care expenses (including wellness exams, vaccinations, treatments, surgeries, and cremation) upon submission of valid agency documentation and paid invoices.

• Establishes Illinois Police K-9 Memorial license plates with fees of $40 for original issuance and $27 for renewals, with $25 per transaction deposited into the Illinois Police K-9 Memorial Fund to support the program and existing memorial monuments.

• Not-for-profit program administrator may use up to 10% of appropriated funds for administrative expenses including salaries and benefits.
