• School boards must provide halal and kosher food options in public school cafeterias by request, with all offerings certified by State-approved organizations or vendors.

• State-owned or State-operated facilities (University of Illinois hospitals and State-operated penal institutions) providing food services must offer halal and kosher food options upon request with reasonable notice.

• Falsely representing food products as halal or kosher, or falsely claiming to be a halal or kosher-certified vendor, subjects violators to penalties under the Halal Food Act or Kosher Food Act.

• Violations of kosher food service provisions at State facilities constitute a Class C misdemeanor for the first offense and a Class A misdemeanor for second and subsequent offenses.

• All halal and kosher food offerings must comply with federal and State nutritional guidelines; provisions become effective June 1, 2025.
