HB3712 Summary

• Renames Section 10-20.83 to Section 10-20.84 of the School Code regarding college and career readiness systems.

• Requires school districts enrolling grades 6-12 to adopt and implement career exploration and development activities aligned with a state postsecondary and career expectations framework by July 1, 2025.

• Requires school districts enrolling grades 9-12 to either implement College and Career Pathway Endorsements by July 1, 2025 or opt out through documented board findings; implementation schedule requires at least 1 endorsement area by 2027, 2 areas by 2029, and 3 areas by 2031 for districts with more than 350 students.

• Encourages school districts implementing College and Career Pathway Endorsements to provide job coaching to Career and Technical Education students, including resume preparation, career counseling, and business community liaison duties.

• Takes effect July 1, 2025.
