IL HB3847

Amends the Higher Education Student Assistance Act to create the Public School Counselor, Social Worker, or Mental Health Professional Loan Repayment Program under the Commission, subject to appropriation.

Provides full educational loan forgiveness to qualified school counselors, social workers, and mental health professionals who work in Illinois public schools for 5 years.

Requires qualified applicants to be U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens, state residents, graduates of state-based institutions of higher learning, and have 5 years of employment in Illinois public schools in an eligible position.

Directs the Commission to establish application procedures, determine required supporting documentation, and adopt rules necessary for program implementation.
