Requires medical assistance (Medicaid) to cover applied behavior analysis treatment for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder when medically necessary and ordered by a licensed physician.

Expands coverage to include psychiatric care, psychological care, habilitative/rehabilitative care, and therapeutic care (behavioral, speech, occupational, and physical therapies).

Allows treatment to be ordered by physicians, licensed behavior analysts, or certified/registered/licensed health care professionals with autism spectrum disorder expertise.

Defines applied behavior analysis as environmental modification using behavioral stimuli and consequences, which must be provided by Board Certified Behavior Analysts or Registered Behavior Technicians under supervision.

Takes effect July 1, 2023.
