Department of Corrections may transfer incarcerated persons to county sheriffs for participation in reentry programs up to 12 months before their release date if the county jail where they resided has such a program.

Transfers require written approval from the sheriff of the county where the reentry program is located.

Department of Corrections must reimburse counties for all expenses incurred in transferring incarcerated persons to reentry programs, including housing costs.

Amends Section 3-8-4.5 of the Unified Code of Corrections, effective January 1, 2024.
