Department of Public Health must issue tick removal guidelines and safe storage procedures by July 1, 2025, and publish them on its website.

Department must provide schools with information about public testing labs capable of providing tick test results to parents or guardians of students.

Department must issue a model notification form for schools to send to parents when a student is found to have a tick bite, including information about tick-borne diseases and testing options.

Department must make tick removal kits available to schools free of charge, containing tweezers, bandages, sealable plastic bags, alcohol wipes, repellent wipes, information cards, and tick identification cards.

School boards must establish tick removal procedures consistent with Department guidelines before the 2025-2026 school year and must preserve removed ticks for up to 3 school days at parent request to allow for testing; school districts and employees are protected from liability except for willful or wanton conduct when following Department guidelines.
