Secretary of State may issue special EMS chief license plates to emergency medical services chiefs upon request from municipalities or fire protection districts, with fees matching standard first division vehicle plates.

EMS chief special registration plates may be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first division or second division motor vehicles weighing not more than 8,000 pounds owned by an EMS chief, municipality, or fire protection district.

EMS chiefs with special registration plates may equip their privately owned vehicles with emergency flashing lights and sirens.

Permanent license plates for EMS vehicles owned by municipalities or fire protection districts shall be issued at the fee prescribed for other government vehicles.

Vehicles operated by EMS chiefs affixed with EMS chief special registration plates are added to the list of vehicles authorized to use red or white oscillating, rotating, or flashing lights when responding to emergency calls.
