IL HB4617

Amends the Barber, Cosmetology, Esthetics, Hair Braiding, and Nail Technology Act of 1985 to provide an alternative pathway to cosmetology licensure.

Allows applicants to complete an online course approved by the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation plus 750 hours of hands-on training supervised by a licensed cosmetologist, instead of the traditional 1,500 hours of in-school instruction.

Requires the hands-on training to extend over a period of not less than 8 months nor more than 7 consecutive years.

Credits hands-on training completed in other states, territories, or foreign countries toward the 750-hour requirement if supervised by a cosmetologist licensed in that jurisdiction.

Maintains all other existing licensure requirements including age, education level, examination passage, and other Act provisions.
