IL HB4625

Amends the School Code to require all school districts to provide developmentally appropriate digital literacy instruction beginning in elementary school, with guidance from the State Board of Education and educator groups.

Digital literacy instruction must include three components: digital citizenship skills, media literacy, and AI literacy, all tailored to student developmental levels.

Digital citizenship skills instruction shall cover students' digital footprints and cybersecurity awareness both inside and outside the classroom.

AI literacy instruction shall include defining generative AI, teaching ethics and responsibilities of AI use, age-appropriate generative AI applications, and how AI impacts the world.

Becomes effective July 1, 2024, and may require school district reimbursement under the State Mandates Act.
