County clerks shall (rather than may) issue certifications of death records from the electronic reporting system and cancel voter registrations of deceased persons from the preceding month.

County coroners, medical examiners, or physicians must promptly transmit certified death records to the county clerk within 7 days after death.

County clerks and coroners must file quarterly reports with their affiliated county board certifying full compliance with these provisions and accuracy of voter rolls.

Any person may request a copy of the required report, and the county clerk must provide an accurate report within 5 business days (or 48 hours if within 30 days before an election).

Circuit courts may order production of records and compliance, and prevailing parties may recover reasonable attorney's fees; courts must impose civil penalties if a public body willfully and intentionally fails to comply or acts in bad faith.
