Amends the Code of Criminal Procedure concerning defendants ordered to inpatient mental health treatment by the Department of Human Services.

Requires the Department to notify the sheriff within 20 days of transmittal of the court's placement order regarding the designated treatment facility.

If the Department fails to provide placement within 20 days, the Department must pay the sheriff for housing and mental health services for each day beyond the 20-day period.

Removes the 60-day deadline requirement for the Department to admit defendants to secure facilities and eliminates the requirement for 30-day status updates to the court when placement cannot be made within 60 days.

Provides that sheriffs shall not be held liable for any issues encountered after the 20th day a defendant remains in their custody.
