IL HB5219

Eliminates mandatory minimum sentence percentages that previously applied to specific offenses and provides all incarcerated persons one day of sentence credit for each day served in prison, except those serving natural life sentences.

Requires the Department of Corrections to recalculate release dates within 6 months by crediting each incarcerated person one day of sentence credit for each day already spent in prison on their current sentence.

Allows incarcerated persons serving natural life sentences to accumulate sentence credits that can be applied to a new sentence if their sentence is later reduced.

Removes restrictions on earning additional sentence credits (up to 90-180 days) through participation in programming, educational achievement, and good conduct for offenses that previously had credit caps.

Effective January 1, 2025.
