Department of Natural Resources shall establish and administer the Prairie Lawns Program to assist Illinois residents with installing pollinator-friendly native plants in residential lawns to protect native bee, butterfly, moth, beetle, fly, and other pollinator species.

Department shall conduct outreach and public awareness campaigns, provide educational materials on the Department website, offer yard signs for grant recipients, and assist local governments and nonprofits with education and demonstration neighborhood projects.

Eligible Illinois residents may receive individual support grants of up to $400 reimbursement for costs associated with establishing pollinator habitats, requiring at least a 25% match through materials, contractor costs, or in-kind labor.

Department shall award demonstration neighborhood grants to local governments and nonprofit organizations through a request for proposal process to create community projects that enhance pollinator habitats in residential areas.

Common interest communities (homeowners associations) cannot prohibit residents from planting pollinator habitats on their own property or lots, but cannot enforce rules impairing proper maintenance and care of such habitats.
