Illinois establishes that examinations for clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, and professional counselors must provide reasonable accommodations for applicants whose primary language is not English and must comply with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Applicants for licensure in clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, and professional counseling cannot be denied licenses based on "real or perceived immigration status" in addition to existing protected statuses.

License applications may accept either a Social Security Number or individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN) instead of requiring only a Social Security Number.

Department disciplinary actions against licensed clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, and professional counselors cannot be taken based solely on immigration violations by the licensee.

Department disciplinary actions cannot be based on another state's discipline if that discipline was solely due to the licensee's immigration violation or provision of lawful healthcare services under Illinois law.
