Creates the Legacy Tree Program Task Force to develop recommendations for a statewide program to identify, commemorate, and preserve significant trees in Illinois.

Task Force must meet quarterly for 4 years and submit final recommendations to the General Assembly by June 30, 2028.

Task Force consists of 18 members including representatives from environmental organizations, the Morton Arboretum, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Natural Resources, universities, arborists, park districts, and legislative members appointed by leadership.

Task Force must establish recommendations for legacy tree criteria, nomination procedures, public awareness programs, funding sources, assessment procedures, and website mapping of designated trees.

Department of Natural Resources shall provide staff and administrative support and serve as the lead and chair agency of the Task Force.
