HB5506 - Senior Home Preservation Program Act

• Establishes the Senior Home Preservation Program administered by the Department of Human Services to provide grants for minor home rehabilitation services to low-income senior homeowners aged 62+ (or 55+ with disabilities) who have lived in their homes for at least 10 years.

• Defines eligible repairs up to $20,000 per unit including security devices, energy/water conservation, plumbing, electrical repairs, accessibility modifications for disabilities, and landscaping improvements.

• Requires applicants to be homeowners using the property as their primary residence and to have household income not exceeding 200% of area median income.

• Creates the Senior Home Preservation Program Fund as a special state fund to receive appropriations and private donations for grant distribution through delegate agencies (local government units, nonprofits, or for-profits).

• Program funds must supplement rather than replace existing home repair resources and may expand or enhance current home repair programs.
