IL HB5606

Creates the Office of Economic Equity and Empowerment within the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to assist minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned, and disability-owned businesses, not-for-profit corporations, and other underserved communities.

Directs the Office to promote outreach and assist eligible businesses in accessing State and federal funding opportunities and applying for loan funds.

Requires the Office to conduct workshops and forums to help businesses become certified under the Business Enterprise for Minorities, Women, and Persons with Disabilities Act and similar certification programs.

Authorizes the Office to provide educational workshops on business formation, business planning, capital access, marketing, grant application procedures, and not-for-profit incorporation.

Empowers the Office to administer grant programs, coordinate assistance with other State agencies, and establish necessary applications, contracts, and regulations.
