Governor shall annually designate by official proclamation the third Friday of September as POW/MIA Recognition Day (changing from automatic designation to gubernatorial proclamation requirement).

Day honors and remembers men and women who suffered captivity as prisoners of war in foreign countries while in active U.S. armed forces service or who have been recognized as missing in action during wartime or periods of hostilities.

Governor shall request in the annual proclamation that some portion of the third Friday of September be used for solemn contemplation of POWs and MIAs and recognition of families and friends seeking full accounting for missing loved ones.

Amends Section 105 of the State Commemorative Dates Act (5 ILCS 490/105).

Effective immediately upon enactment.
