Declares February 22, 2023 as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) Awareness Day in Illinois to raise public awareness about this serious cardiovascular disease.

Recognizes HCM as the most common inheritable heart disease affecting an estimated 700,000 to 1,650,000 people in the United States, with 85% remaining undiagnosed.

Acknowledges that HCM causes heart muscle thickening and can lead to serious complications including heart failure, atrial fibrillation, stroke, and sudden cardiac death, with mortality risk three to four times higher than the general population.

Urges the Governor to issue annual proclamations recognizing the fourth Wednesday in February as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Awareness Day and calls on Illinois residents to observe the day with appropriate programs and activities.
