Proposed Quad Cities passenger rail route between Chicago and downtown Moline was initially scheduled to begin service in 2014, but has experienced significant delays.

Senator Richard J. Durbin secured $177 million in federal funding in 2010, and Governor JB Pritzker provided $225 million in state funding in 2019 for the project.
