Recognizes that tardive dyskinesia (TD) is an involuntary movement disorder caused by prolonged use of dopamine-blocking medications used to treat mental illnesses and gastrointestinal disorders

Notes that approximately 600,000 people in the United States have TD, with about 65 percent remaining undiagnosed

Acknowledges that the American Psychiatric Association recommends regular screening for TD and that FDA-approved treatments are available for adults with the condition

Calls on the Illinois House of Representatives to raise awareness of tardive dyskinesia among the public and medical community
