Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was founded on January 15, 1908, with a mission to promote unity among college women and provide "Service to All Mankind"

Illinois is home to 44 Alpha Kappa Alpha chapters: 16 collegiate chapters on college and university campuses and 28 alumnae chapters throughout the state

The sorority's Central Region encompasses Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and parts of Missouri, consisting of 96 active chapters focused on advocacy and service
