Honors more than 800,000 law enforcement officers in the United States and nearly 40,000 in Illinois who serve and protect their communities daily

Acknowledges that over 23,000 names of fallen law enforcement officers are listed on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial dating back to 1786, with more than 2,400 officer deaths in the line of duty in the past decade

Recognizes that law enforcement officers experience 400-600 traumatic events during their careers, resulting in a 54% higher suicide rate among officers compared to other professions

Calls for increased measures to improve officer safety, well-being, retention, recruitment, training, equipment, and mental health resources

Calls on all government levels in Illinois and the United States to provide law enforcement with necessary support and resources to keep communities safe, particularly during the Illinois Police Memorial ceremony on May 2, 2024, and National Police Week (May 12-18, 2024)
