Congratulates Mark A. Pfister on his retirement as executive director of the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center (LCHD/CHC) effective September 1, 2024

Pfister earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, Environmental Science, and Psychology from Augustana College (1986) and a Master of Science in Energy and Sustainability from Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs (1991), and is a doctoral candidate at University of Illinois Chicago School of Public Health

Served LCHD/CHC for over 30 years beginning in 1991, holding positions including aquatic biologist, Lakes Management Program coordinator, associate director of Environmental Health Services, interim director of EHS, and director of Prevention and Population Health Services before becoming interim executive director in 2016 and executive director in January 2017

Led over 60 separately funded public health, behavioral health, and medical programs with approximately 1,000 employees at over 20 Lake County locations while managing multimillion-dollar budgets and restructuring organizational systems including quality improvement, finance, and strategic planning

Active member of multiple professional organizations including the Illinois Public Health Association (policy and legislative chair), Illinois Primary Healthcare Association, Northern Illinois Public Health Consortium, and American Public Health Association
