Illinois House of Representatives memorializes David "Dave" Dowling of Belleville, who died on June 24, 2024, at age 75.

Dowling served as a labor union activist with United Steelworkers of America (USWA) for over 50 years, beginning employment at Granite City Steel on November 18, 1973.

Dowling served as president of USWA Local Union 67 from 1982 to 1997, then as director of USWA Sub-District 2 for over 20 years until his retirement in February 2021.

During his tenure as director, Dowling established the Sub-District 2 Golf Tournament to raise scholarship funds for children of union members and championed education through training seminars and speaker events.

Dowling is survived by his wife of 40 years (Genie), daughters Sarah and Kaitlyn, brother Michael, and extended family members.
