Helen Louise Long Carlock of Chicago passed away on September 23, 2024, and the Illinois House of Representatives expresses condolences to her family and friends.

Carlock was a Northwestern University graduate who worked as manager of the Department of Correspondence and Research at Encyclopedia Britannica and later contributed expertise to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Served as secretary for the Juneway Building Corporation for over 40 years, managing city relations, shareholder communications, and building operations, and was instrumental in enabling mortgages for new residents.

Actively involved with the Independent Voters of Illinois - Independent Precinct Organization (IVI-IPO) and 49th Ward Democratic Party, known for voter outreach and canvassing efforts and supported over 150 organizations including the Southern Poverty Law Center, ACLU, and World Wildlife Fund.

Enjoyed Chicago's arts scene including theater, opera, dance, and classical music; was an animal lover and cat enthusiast; survived by companion Glenn Evans (43 years together), niece Heather N. Long, nephew John A. Long with wife Michele, and great-niece Andi Jean Long.
