Held leadership roles on the Madison County Transit District board for 34 years, serving as chairman, vice chairman, treasurer, and board member

Owned and operated Allan Auction Service with his wife Mary for 38 years (1982-2020) after attending Missouri Auction School in Kansas City

Received numerous community recognitions including the Paul Harris Fellowship Award from the National Rotary Club, the 2005 Wilkerson Chapel A.M.E. Church Golden Spirit Award, and the 2010 Spirit of Excellence Award
