Congratulates Omer Osman on his retirement and commends his decades of service to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), his community, and his country.

Osman joined IDOT in 1989 as a civil engineer and rose through the ranks to serve as Illinois Transportation Secretary in 2019, becoming only the third secretary to spend his entire career with the agency.

Led IDOT through the majority of the six-year Rebuild Illinois capital program, which invested $33.2 billion into the state's transportation system across all modes including roads, bridges, transit, rail, aviation, and bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.

Oversaw completion of major infrastructure projects including the Mississippi River bridge and Illinois 3 relocation in East St. Louis, I-74/155 interchange reconstruction in Morton, and I-74 Mississippi River bridge in the Quad Cities.

Championed diversity and inclusion initiatives within IDOT, including statewide recruitment efforts and increased access for Disadvantaged Business Enterprises and minority and female-owned businesses.
