Each Illinois public institution of higher education must adopt a policy accepting documentation of disability from students, including IEPs, Section 504 plans, evaluations from licensed professionals, disability records from other institutions, and military service-related disabilities.

Institutions may request additional documentation only when an IEP or Section 504 plan was not in effect immediately before the student exited high school.

Public institutions must make their disability eligibility determination process transparent and accessible to students, parents, and faculty through orientations and public websites.

Institutions must engage in an interactive process with students to establish reasonable accommodations under federal Section 504 and Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.

Institutions may establish less burdensome criteria than those specified in the law to determine disability status.
