Increases minimum salary for full-time county public defenders from 90% to 100% of the county State's Attorney's annual compensation.

Increases state funding contribution for public defender salaries from 66 2/3% to 100%, with payments made monthly through the Department of Revenue from the Personal Property Tax Replacement Fund or General Revenue Fund.

Prohibits public defenders in counties with 30,000 or more inhabitants from engaging in private law practice if receiving at least 100% of the State's Attorney's compensation.

Applies to public defenders employed full-time in counties, subject to appropriation and County Board approval of salary amounts.

Effective July 1, 2023.
