SB0178 Summary

• Amends the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act to require courts to provide verbal notice to obligors (parents owing child support) when entering child support orders.

• Notice must inform obligors of: (i) their existing and ongoing payment obligations to the obligee, (ii) their right to request modification of the order, and (iii) possible penalties for falling into arrears.

• Adds new subsection (2.5) to Section 505 establishing this verbal notice requirement at the time a child support order is entered.
