IL SB0689

Prohibits public libraries, library systems, and library districts from banning or limiting access to books based on depictions of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, sexual and reproductive health, gender identity, religion, or human rights activism.

Applies restrictions to the Illinois Local Library Act, Illinois Library System Act, Public Library District Act of 1991, and Village Library Act.

Allows libraries to impose age and developmental level restrictions and public safety limitations on materials, provided these are the only exceptions to the ban prohibition.

Extends the same book ban prohibitions to school districts for school library collections under the School Code.

Updates Illinois Library System Act Section 3 to add these book ban prohibitions as an objective for the State Librarian's rules and regulations.
